Setting up an open top tank with swordtails?

Hello everyone! Very first post here, thanks for having me. I'm just getting into aquascaping, and we have a moderately planted tank right now with floating water lettuce on top. I love the look of open top tanks more, so I've been leaving the cover off, and the few fish that we have right now (some Danios and a guppy or two) have stayed in the tank with no problems, but I'm concerned about any new fish we buy. I really want some koi swordtails that I saw in the store, but I read that they are notorious jumpers that should be kept in a covered tank. However, some other articles mention that they jump due to not enough space or bad water parameters. We have a 50 gal tank and I intend to keep the water under control, so would it still be a bad idea? Would love any insight and alternatives for fish that would be good in open tanks! (I know all fish have the potential to be jumpers though haha)

I have a open top 75 gl tank. once or twice a year I'll find a fish on the floor. The only fish that I have kept that were jumpers were Hachette fish. What appears to too cause fish to jump is turning on the tank lights in a dark room.
    fish (noun)

Water vertebrate with gills often used in aquariums as an inconsistent and inadequate source of plant fertilizers
