Fish store recommendations please - end of January
Coming to L.A. area for a few days at end of January. Looking for recommendations on great fish stores. ( rare plants, crystal shrimp, and SA dwarfs, and Corydoras) Will be flying back home so must be able to transport on plane.
Last visit was about 3 years ago and only got to see 2 stores, carved out a little more time to hit a few more.
Thanks in advance.
****Interested in Private sellers of Crystal or Tiger shrimp, pink crypts, rare plants.*****
Well that depends what part of LA your headed to, Tongs tropical fish store in Santa Ana is a great all around store, Ck fish world in West Covina is a great all around store and Deep blue aquarium is a small store packed full of corals of all variety’s , pet supreme and rainbow fish are my closest LFS and are great stores but not sure worth the drive for “rareness”
And lastly if your coming off LAX there a LAX fish store about 1 mile off the landing strip so that’s a obvious stop by haha
But like I said it depends on where your headed, keep in mind most of these LFS have some sort of algae issue
Will be in West Covina area, flying into LAX with rental car pick up. I live in Houston, so everything is “1hour away”, no matter what it is. Don’t mind the driving as I will have some free time. Just wanted to see what the locals recommended! Have been to CK Fish world and put it on my list of must see as I will be just a few minutes away. Will map out the others! Thanks
For rare plants, crystal shrimp, and SA dwarfs, and Corydoras, I don't think you need to go anywhere but CK fish world. If you stop by OC for some good eats, I like Nolans aquarium as well. There is not as much selection, but all of his livestock is well cared for and he is very kind.
I can add 2 more not mentioned. Marks Tropical Fish in North Hollywood is a very nice store. I was there recently. Tanks are pristine and fish are active and healthy looking. It is not a big store but they have some nice varieties. Total Fish and Pets in Alhambra is one the way from LAX to West Covina with a slight detour off the I10. I have not stopped in there for awhile but I know others that still recommend it. If you look at Ben Ochart YouTube channel. He does walk throughs on a lot of LFS in the SoCal area that you can check out to see what they are like ahead of time.
