I won two plants at the SCAPE auction this weekend. They look great and I'm pretty sure they came from snail free environments, but what's the BEST method of dipping plants to rid them of any potential snail eggs? What have you personally used to remove/kill snail eggs? I've heard of alum dips and bleach dips, but what works best? I've seen alum in the spice section at the grocery store. Is it the same thing? What are the ratios of the solutions?

If you don't want to watch the video, here it is written out:
1 tbsp of Alum (which you can get from grocery stores) per I gallon of water (mix together in a container. Don't put the alum in your aquarium, though). Then soak the plant in it for 4 hours. Rinse the plant off afterwards and they should be free of most snails and planaria (I think Malaysian trumpet snails may be immune, though). Anyways, it seems to be working for me so far.
Thanks for responding! I'd heard of the alum dip and was curious. So, you literally use alum from the spice section of the store? That's so cool! I did a 1 to 19 ratio of bleach and water mix for a dip. It seemed to have worked. *shrug*
Edited to Update: I actually had 2 ramshorn snails live through the bleach dip!! I killed the first one, but kept the second. It's pretty big! It's been a few weeks and I still only have one!

Yes, I use McCormicks brand from the grocery store. Use whatever works,though, as long as it doesn't kill your plants. I heard someone else say this: "Every aquarium is an experiment," and what works for one person's tank may not work for yours.
How to best rinse new plants?
