Anyone have any experience with this soil, I've been seeing it at few LFS. Is this the same as the controsoil that's in a white and blue bag?

I just started using it in my 40long. It's pretty nice. The black looks brownish and the brown looks like super light brown. So far my plants seem to be doing well and its buffering my ph to 6.3ish. I have no complaints.

Cheap and buffers well. I think Ada is still a bit better for plants but my prls don't seem to mind it. Only thing is I would get the bigger pellet size next time. I got the fine version and my bigger shrimp are digging and carrying the pellets around making a mess of my scape :/ Also to note with nitrying bacteria I was able to cycle the tank in about 2 days, held the ammonia at 0 for a week just to be safe, but seem to not leech excessive amount of ammonia like Ada. Overall would buy it again especially during the meet sales when it gets pretty darn cheap.
Yes it's the same. It's a collaboration with UNS
Glad to hear, I'll definitely give it a try. Nice tank kberg
Just bought some (tonight) to increase depth in my tank (volcanit rio escura substrate) . After reading reviews about it not needing much washing and buffering pH, i'm hoping to be able to slowly add it to my 11mo. old aquarium without it putting my water parameters out of whack. Sure hope the 5mm 10L "black is brownish" since the volcanit is dark brown 3mm.
changed order from 5mm to medium 3mm. Arived Thurdsday. It's probably 1.5mm, unless they're measuring circumference and not diameter. Either way, tiny, but not too cloudy/dusty after light rinsing. Adding only 1L per day and today's only Day 2, with a 20% wc, so we'll see. Oh, and definitely dark brown, not black, which is slightly disappointing.
I have this soil in all 5 of my tanks and so far so good! It grows good carpets and buffers good enough for my caradina shrimp tank. I've had it in one of my tanks for almost a year and it's holding up well so far!
Using it right now. Really like it. Tank filled clean and crystal clear. Plants took off quickly. You will need to boost it a bit sooner than ADA Amazonia, but that isn't hard with root tabs. So far UNS has been a great all around brand.
just set up a 4 gallon long with it, glad to see its highly recommended, looking forward to filling it with CRS!
