funny as it may be, someone lost some expensive shrimp because they didn't do that test. turned out the sand they bought had some residual limestone in that killed their shrimp overnight.
And yes, Quikcrete produces playsand. I've bought a bag or two and made sure to thoroughly rinse it through and through.

about the sand. you literally have to stick the hose underneath the sand and dump out the dirty water repeatedly. i usually "pressure wash" the play sand by squeezing my thumb over the hose hole. its a pain to wash but it does eventually clear up and looks awesome. try doing that for an 8' long cichlid tank -________-
Okay I guess I'll just post it here! I've been wanting to post this up for awhile now but keep forgetting...This is my so called Iwagumi/Wabi-Kusa project (no intentions to fill with water)
Well here's what I created:
Tank - 3.5 gal curved corner from Pet Supreme
Light - Finnex FugeRay-R Ultra Slim LED Fixture +RED
Hardscape - small Okho Stone aka Dragon Stone (large stone broken into pieces)
Flora - Hemianthus callitrichoides 'Cuba' aka baby tears, eleocharis parvula, hydrocotyle sibthorpioides, hemianthus micranthemoides, Monte Carlo, Riccardia Chamedryfolia (Mini Pellia aka coral moss), mini xmas moss, some other unknown moss, myriophyllum mattogrossense, rotala mini butterfly (not doing so well) and some other type of stem which I found in a pond in San Diego, I think it's a bacopa of some type

Tell me what you think!
Would this be an accidental wabi kusa since one of the plants are growing out of the water ?

i would think if you used a dry start method in a way, yes.
If it's completely submerged, I have to say no.

Is Kokedama similar to wabi kusa?
I saw this:
