    Speaker/Demo Ideas

Hi fellow SCAPE members, those of you who have been going to the monthly meetings know that along with the great auctions, raffles and food we sometimes have speaker/demonstrations.

Here are some of the ones we have had so far:

-Group scape at host Cassie's house
-ADA DVD viewing (ADA convention and Iron Scaping contest)
-Scaping Demo by Champion ADA Iron Scaper, John Ciotti
-Presentation on Hikari products by Detail Specialist, Kirby Kim
    -CO2 Demo/Talk by John Ciotti
    -De-rimming a tank at host Sherwood's house

If you have ideas in regards to what you would want to hear/see at future meetings or if you have skills/info you would like to share yourself, please let us know here.

    Thank you

    Subject List:

Again please let us know if you are experienced in these *subjects and would be able to speak at one of our meetings:

? Ponds: set up, types, basic care, etc.

? Lighting: types, pros & cons of each, bulbs-which to use and why, etc.

? Best fish for nano aquariums: basic care, types, etc.

? Best filters for planted aquariums: types, pros & cons of each, etc.

? Substrates for the planted tanks

? Prevention and cure of diseases

? Discussion on water parameters: how water chemistry functions in a tank with live animals/plants.

***Post any other subjects you would be able to Demo/Speak on in this thread.

Our Demo/Speaker Liaison (Furyokids) will contact you to work out the details.

    Thank you.

It would be better if the presenter brings their own equipment/examples when possible.

We will work out a schedule that will work out for the club and presenters.

    Thanks.

Hey Richard, I guess this is a wish list! I have not done any of these things but I seem to recall discussions on the forum where people have or are doing them.

in the last meeting, john ciotti mentioned giving a photography demo. i can definitely assist him on that if we do that topic as there's seem to be a few threads on photography recently.

like stated above i think more diy stuff would be cool for those of use who cant afford top of the line gear

    like co2 reactors/diffusers

also maybe a slide show on the diffrent designs we can use to scape
like how to make the eye flow to a focal point

or what about how to attach plants ie. to driftwood like moss anubia and ferns

moss anubias and ferns are easy, just use a rubberband...

We can also use thread and fishing/nylon string to tie plants to wood or rock. We saw this with the scaping demo when Furykids hosted and will see it in future demos.

Thanks for the post provided so far, please keep them coming!

john used thread for the demo at ayami's house.

Another topic could be fish that are not community fishes like cichlid, monster fishes or others

    Hey Richard,

I second the idea of a photography demo. As I mentioned in another post with you. I wonder if anyone in SCAPE knows any past member that makes his living out of shooting aquariums

Maybe a beginers demo with point and shoot cameras. Setup, lighting, backdrop.

Also a more advanced demo for the SLR guy's, slave flash setups etc.

    Thanks

in the last meeting, john ciotti mentioned giving a photography demo.
If this develops into a solid plan then we will see about integrating beginner and advanced elements. As with all our demos there will be time for Q&A for all attending members.

Prevention and cure of diseases specifically for a tank with very sensitive fish and other animals.

    • Photography demo, both for beginners (point & shoot) and advanced (SLR).
Fisheyed is also a pro photog, maybe both John & Shaheen can do this demo.

    • A general talk about Inverts (shrimp & snails): basic care, types, breeding, etc. Neon Shrimp interested in doing the talk??

    • How to get rid of algae.

    • Ponds: set up, types, basic care, etc.

    • Lighting: types, pros & cons of each, bulbs-which to use and why, etc.

    • In depth talk about Plants & Moss: low vs high light plants, care, types, best way to use each in a scape.

    • Livebearers: basic care, types, breeding, etc.
live bearers are easy, you just dump them into a tank and feed them...Fromthelbc
You're right, this is probably too easy.

    • Best fish for nano aquariums: basic care, types, etc.

    • Best filters for planted aquariums: types, pros & cons of each, etc.

    Two conditions:

    1. Must gauge to see how many members would be interested in the topic. Won't do it if there are just a handful of members who will be there.

    2. Most importantly, it will be at a meeting in which you are hosting . Your father is one of the best sushi chiefs around!

live bearers are easy, you just dump them into a tank and feed them...
Tell that to Victor and his Picta live bearers
