Hakkai Stone Aquascape - 20g Long

    Hello fellow scapers!

Sharing progress on a new setup: 20g long UNS 90L tank. Main hardscape is from hakkai stone, manzanita driftwood, and ADA aqua gravel. Planting completed on 2/13/2021 so these photos are the scape at a little over 3 weeks after planting.

I'm going for a forest stream feel—something soothing and calming for the living space in my one bedroom apartment here in Culver City. While researching and gathering inspiration for the scape, I stumbled across Takashi Amano's photos of Yakushima island (link below) and was blown away by the ancient forest landscape. Moss covered forest floor littered with fallen branches, rounded rock streams: the place definitely seems to have a personality and presence, even in photographs. I can only imagine the feeling of being there in person.

Lots of work to do on the scape but right now just trying to get through the initial phase without too much algae. I'm using fast-growing starter/helper plants (Hygrophila angustifolia, Heteranthera zosterifolia) in the background but will swap these out eventually. Mossy feel from Fissidens fontanus and Vesicularia ferriei (weeping moss).

Added green neon tetras (Paracheirodon simulans) for some beautiful blue schooling action.

Any thoughts and insights are most welcome!

    Really nice looking tank pdfig.

Comes out looking larger than 20g.

Did you get those hakkai stones locally?

    Thank you!

Yeah got the hakkai stone at Nature Aquarium in Culver City. I'm lucky that NA is my LFS and is just down the street from me!
