    What are these?

Anyone know what these things are? The one that is like 3 ovals and 1 oval? They swim weirdly thru the water, like in bursts instead of smoothly. My tank just finished cycling and all of a sudden I see these guys. The only thing that was in the tank before it finished cycling was some MTS.

Yeah I saw the same on my first tank. They're copepods, pretty harmless, and they are a sign that your water is doing well.

I used a turkey baster to suck out s little water near the bottom of my tank and added some tank water. I put a tiny speck of food every day or two and give it some light from my desk lamp and some copepods and worms grow. I siphon out a little every day with s pipettes and feed the fish and squirt back some water from the tank. Enough for snacks for my small fish. The guys that zip around are cyclops but there are bunches of other critters you may find.

Just good o'l microfauna. I get tons of the stuff when Im cycling my tanks. Anything from little ovals darting lie springs to little worms wiggling or swimming around. To me that just means like algae I am creating an ecosystem. As long as its not hydra

If you ever use organic potting soil for a walstad tank, you’ll see all kinds of crazy stuff pop up.

All that stuff is just living in the soil...
