Can I use aquasoil as substrate for a goldfish tank?
Hello All,
Can I use ada aquasoil as substrate for a goldfish tank? Will the goldfish make a big mess and dig up all the soil? I have an established tank already with plants (just need the goldfish).
If you don't think aquasoil is a good option what would you suggest?
Yes, goldfish always sifts/graze the bottom that is their instinct. They will most definitely mess up your plants and scape. Some people who have goldfish put their plants in pots and top with gravel to prevent them from getting loose. However, goldfish will nip at the plants anyways. I give away tons of duckweed to my nephew every month as food for his goldfish. That's one reason why I don't keep goldfish the other is they produce to much waste.
I tie and superglue a 3/4" chunk of lava rock to the bottom of the stems, then bury it in the gravel.
Also I use small glass jar with a root tab then aqua soil, then small lava rocks on top. They haven pulled those either.
Goldfish are the bull dozers of the aquarium
Oh and I feed a little heavy, it keeps them a little more complacent.
