That’s a nice carpet! Not sure, but how about trying some root tabs if u can get them in without too much disturbance...?
I would trim it and let it regrow

Nah dhg doesnt need much substrate it can grow itself on sand or rocks. Your light doesnt look enough, the limnophila aromatica and ludwigia looks leggy. Not enough light, co2, or care.
Eh, it's still a root feeding plant. My take on aquatic plants is IF they have roots, that's where they feed from. I feel a trim and some more nutrients in the substrate layer would help out. I don't know many people that have been able to grow a carpet plants in an inert substrate without root tabs.

More Tanks!
Well judging from your other plants in the back it looks like you dont have enough lights. Whats your setup like? Ph and Kh for minimum 30ppm
DHG does not need too much nutrients, they need stronger light and so more co2?
I have a Chihiros RGB on the tank and inject CO2. I don’t measure the CO2, but the drop checker is a healthy green by the end of the day.
pH is right at 7- haven’t measured KH in a while- I will do it later today.
I have some floating plants because they helped eliminated some BBA by filtering the light- that may be he culprit.

Rgb not strong enough. You need to upgrade it to the WRGB at least. Green drop checker is not enough either. Close to yellow would be ideal.

I use 1 wrgb, 1 wrgb2, and for the big tank is 8 bulb ATI.
No filter on the pictures, unlike the instagrammer that has highlight but the tank looks dark . Water still cloudy due to trimming
Beautiful tanks!
I guess I will just have to limp along with slightly brown DHG and leggy limnophila, then- this is my secondary tank and I won’t be upgrading the lighting. Overall, I am pretty happy with it- going to let it grow out a bit more and then clean up the scape a bit.

I would try dosing 3 times a week. This would probably help prevent this from happening again. Trim off the dead stuff.
All of the above... nice tank Tom... don’t know why such a negative response to root tabs lol... but if a plant feeds primarily through its roots, they will be of some benefit... along with everything else that posted above... your crypts will like em too...
Hope you’re doing well... did you ever get the rainbow Cichlids?
That tank is a gem!
