Nice work. What size is the aquarium? It looks like you have plenty of hiding places for the fry, though I don't think mollies are big fry-eaters.

It is a 10 gallon tank. They may or may not eat their fry but I did see one female devour a red cherry shrimp I had in there for uneaten food duty.

Success! About 50 fry hiding in the plants.

Now to work on my outdoor 50 gallon pond for a grow out tank in the summer... Plan on using an aquaponics set up with a solar water pump.

I've done the Molly breeding (by accident) before.

They do tend to eat their fry after one or two days.

Nice! Please post updates on which solar powered pump you get. I'm thinking of doing something similar in near future.

I will try and post my progress as I get further through the process. Still in the planning stage.

Wild Sailfin Molly grow out Aquaponics pond

Here is an update to my Aquaponics outdoor pond for a grow out tank. I am using a solar powered water pump system that will flow into a plant bed for filtration.

Do you ever worry about cats, or other critters getting to your fishes in your pond? That is my main reason for not building one yet... that and the wife's permission lol.

Actually unfortunately just had a cat incident last night. Took two of my fancy goldfish I had in there. Found there eaten tails in our kiddie pool. The Sailfin fry are too small now to get taken. Already looking into steps to deter our neighbors outside cat. He also gets birds that eat seed by our bird feeder. I am going to plant an herb called Rue which cats apparently can’t stand the odor of.

I also hope that when I have more plants in the pond like Jungle Val, Bacopa, and water Lilly’s that it will be harder to detect the fish.
