I agree that taking the parents out is the route to go. So what are your plans with all your new fishes once they grow?

Just raising them will be the fun part- then I will new homes! Both parents are beautiful, so they babies should be, too.

I'm sure you won't have any problems finding homes for them. Peter at CK brought in some angels and they almost completely sold out in just a couple days.

Ok, quick update! I have free swimming fry!

You can see the last couple of video updates on my IG @geektanks

Thanks to my younger son, I happened to catch what looked like the parents snacking on the fry as they became free swimming.

It is possible they were just going to move them again, but I donít know, it just didnít feel the same, so I quickly pulled them out and put them back into the big tank. Felt bad I wasnít able to acclimate them very well- the nursery tank is about 4 degrees warmer than the big tank.

I somehow was able to move the extraneous fake plants and useless breeding cone, and net out the dither corys I had in there, too- all without disturbing the grouping of fry. Whew!

Pictures arenít great because they are all so tiny and constantly moving!

So here is the revised set up- I also moved over one of the marimo ball patches from the big tank to add something for them to pick at. I am sure it has some micro critters, and I hear they like picking at algae as fry, too. You can see there is a more advanced group already swimming out in the open water, too.

Now I just have to figure out how to do water changes without sucking any up! I will probably just put my brine shrimp net over a hose for now, but I want to suck up the detritus from the bottom, too.

    Bad news!

I have been watching the water condition carefully, but somehow missed a big ammonia spike. Lost a lot of the babies this morning. Scrambling to do a big water change during my work day. I will keep you updated- hopefully I noticed quickly enough to save the rest.

Hard to take still pictures because they are always moving, but their bodies are starting to change shape, and you can already see the coloring coming in.

Crazy how much size difference there is between the biggest and smallest.

My phone takes terrible pictures but the babies are basically just tiny angels now.
