I haven't- that was next on my list. I don't have one handy, but I was going to get one if this set up didn't work.

    Should I add M Blue?

Try using a slate. It a lot better especially if you can get an airstone under it to create flow through the egg. Meth Blue is the way to go. Be cautious, I started with a breeding pair, end up having more than 200 midnight black angels in few months. Be ready to know what to do with them.

    Good news! The eggs hatched!

Bad news! The pair immediately ate the fry.

    Dang it.

    Happy Easter!

New batch of eggs on the same fake leaf- much larger amount this time, not sure if that signifies anything.

I told my wife they spawned again and she said, “maybe they are hungry”.

This time I am going to try covering the front of the tank. The 20g doesn’t give them a lot of privacy, and it faces where we come in and out through the slider. Maybe that is making them skittish? I am just guessing at this point.

If this batch doesn’t make it, I will try removing the cories. I thought they would make the angels more parental, and give them something to chase, but maybe they are adding stress, too.

    Open to suggestions!

You may need to remove the adults and put an airstone under the leaf to provide water movement. You can use methylene blue for the eggs, I have 3/4 of a bottle you can have if you need it.
Another option would be if you could remove the leaf, put it in a 1/2g or larger jar with an airstone and some methylene blue.
Once the eggs hatch your going to want to do steady water changes daily to remove the methylene blue from the water column. If going the jar route wait until the fry are free swimming before putting them into a grow out tank.
Do you have food for when the fry are done with their yolk sack? Do you have a grow out tank for free swimming fry? I have (5) 10g tanks in my garage, you can have one of them if you need. I also have some heaters and air pumps too.

Thanks, Kole- I have M Blue now.

I also have an air stone and pump, but have been running the tank they are in with a HOB filter. Should I add the air stone? Turn off the HOB?

I tried removing the leaf the first few times they spawned and the eggs all turned white. I left the parents in with them this time because someone else suggested the eggs do better with the parents to care for them.

I was planning on moving the parents back to the big tank once the fry were free swimming and eating. I have frozen nauplii ready for the fry. I was hoping I could keep the fry in the 20g to grow them out for a while. I have an extra 10g in a pinch.

Ok, almost the entire batch of eggs hatched! There were literally only two unfertilized eggs out of all that you see in the picture.

I have a lot of healthy wrigglers now, parents still being attentive. Have baby nauplii ready to go for when they are free swimming.

Almost forgot a sponge for the filter intake but remembered just in time!

Mama just moved all the wrigglers to a new leaf. Apparently this is a good sign of her future care, and ensure she is selecting out the healthiest ones.

Woohoo! Better get them grow out tanks ready, pretty soon your gonna have a ton of fish on your hands. How long are you planning on keeping the fry with the Parents? I might suggest removing the male at some point if you dont remove the fry. With my apistos the male would eat the fry after a few days of free swimming to get the female to spawn again.
Looking forward to seeing lots of babies!

I figured as soon as they were free swimming I would move both parents back into the big tank?

That would be the best route to take, leave the babies in that tank since they are used to those conditions. I would toss a sponge filter into the tank as well. I saw your IG post and looks like you have a very large batch of fry lol, the extra filtration is gonna help tremendously as well as something for the fry to pick at. Do you have moss, guppy grass, or something like that (hornwort/myrio work as well)? If so I would toss a handful or two in the tank as well for the fry to forage on.
Another tip as well, go to Target and get a Mortar/Pestle set to crush up foods into a powder for the fry. You want live foods for them but you also want to vary their diet. Boiled egg yolk works wonders. Your going to want to feed them 4-5 times a day for about the first month.
Other than that just keep an eye on the water parameters, fry/growout tanks can get dirty pretty quickly. Pothos and floaters are a great addition to absorb ammonia and nitrates.

    Thanks for all the tips!

Right now it is a bare bottom 20g with a HOB filter, and a “seasoned” (from an existing tank) sponge pre-filter.

Only the fake plants that they spawned on- no real plants. I added the breeding cone thinking they would use that for eggs, and the fake plants would be for cover for the fry, but they have completely ignored the cone and only laid eggs on the fake plants.

I don’t have much in the way of plants I could move over there- maybe some salvinia and one of my marimo ball covered rocks?

    Pathos I have plenty of!
