    Hatching Angels

    Hey all!

The angels that have paired up in the 135 have spawned 3 times, but have eaten the eggs each time.

This time I had a 20g set up and ready.

    Wish me luck!

Sadly, many of the eggs are turning white. Fingers crossed some of them will make it.

Do you keep the parents in with the eggs, or remove them like I am trying now?

I've had much more success with the parents caring for them. They are amazing parents, so incredibly attentive. Don't be shocked if you still hatch just a few even if it seems like they're all turning white on you.

I am concerned about the babies because there are so many fish in the tank. I think that stresses them out and that is why they eat the eggs. Maybe next time I can relocate the parents *and* the eggs.

My suggestion would be to relocate them next time they start behaving like they're going to spawn (the fat bellies and leaf pecking). If you move them and the eggs they may eat them again because they feel stressed. I've hatched fry without parents but I used methylene blue to prevent fungus.

I have had fry happen in my community tank and I had to collect them as soon as they became free swimming as the parents can't defend them once they are.

    Great tips, thank you!

I couldn't find Methylene Blue- I tried the API "natural stuff", but I don't think it helped.

    No problem!

I'm not sure what's in the API one. I tried looking for it and it just showed a picture of the box. They lay pretty frequently, I've had a new batch of eggs in a week before (I've heard as soon as 10 days but my guys couldn't wait). I've also found that 82 seems like the perfect temp for hatching.

A light concentration of hydrogen peroxide will work just as well.

Well, bad news- all the eggs died.

Setting up the bare tank now with a breeding cone and some fake plants for cover.

Next try, I will move the parents before they lay eggs (hopefully)

Ok, here is the plan 3.0: cycled tank, spawning cone and some cover, a few tiny cories for the angels to boss around, and some high quality food. Slowly upping the temp to 82 to see if that helps with the eggs.

Ok, so they have completely ignored the breeding cone, but when I fed them this morning, I noticed a large batch of eggs on one of the fake plants.

    Fingers crossed!
