Dry Start 15 days no progress.

Using dirt capped with sand. I also used osmocote plus pellets and scattered them around.

I wet it down about every other day or everyday using dechlor tank water and thrive+ squirt with a bit of excel.

The light I'm running is meant for corals but I have the blue spectrum turned way down to 1%. I added the photo of it 15 days in with 0 growth. Ignore the saran wrap.

There's some algae looking stuff growing in the back too. Tank is a 40b.

The light is hitting the hairgrass at probably 300 PAR? Here is the spectrum:

    Channel one: Violet(420nm), Royal Blue(450nm), Blue(470nm)
    Channel two: Green(520nm), Red(660nm), Neutral White(6500K), Cool White(1 2000K)

I can't see the light or substrate being a problem...

The DHG I used was from my tank, which came from TC (was in my tank for 3~ weeks and hardly grew, just a few DHG stems grew).

Yeah. Someone PMd me. It is too wet, and I never let it vent. I'll start that today.

I would like to know more about the light, specifically its color spectrum.

If it is 10k,that is going to be way too high for DSM. 10k is designed to bend its wavelength down through water, as well as coralskeletons for their very sensitive metabolic algae to process it.

Edit: just read the spectrums. Cut down that 12000k. You don't need that at all. The 6500 is good.

One thing you can do to see if there is any growth is to pull one up and see if there are any roots. This will set back the growth of the clump by a week or two, so only do it if you are worried that they are sitting there and rotting. If there is no root growth, then you know they aren't growing at all.

300 PAR seems way overkill to me. Under water, DHG will grow fine with 50 PAR. The dry start seems too wet to me also.

Any updates? Have you seen any growth start?

Yeah after I've stopped misting and started leaving it open everyday for half an hour, the hair grass is sending out some blades! The weird algae that's on the substrate is still growing though... A bit slower, but still growing.
