    Stiphodon

I've been in love with the images I've seen of stiphodon gobies. I'd like to know a reasonably durable one that won't eat all of my shrimp or break the bank. I'm not a huge fan of ordering fish online, so if you have seen these at any of the local shops please let me know.

My experience with gobies back in the day were Knight Gobies, Dragon Gobies, Bumblebees, Sleeper Gobies and the like but the colors on the stiphodon I have seen more recently are amazing and would love to get at least one in there and if they need company maybe 2 or 3.

They're cool! They graze on biofilm in a tank so they're best off in a large tank with lots of surface area and high current. They had some at CK fish world last I checked for killer prices (less than $10)

I'll check this week. I only have a 29 and a bit warm at 78 but I do have good circulation with 3 small HOB, a long air bar and two small SunSun wave makers so hopefully that would work. I do want to try with a hardier/cheaper one to start for that reason. Plenty of film in the tank too.

    Thanks for the info.

Stiphodons are super cool, i want to setup a tank for them someday. The most common seem to be "neon blue stiphodon" which is a common name for both semoni and atropurpureus. They display colors best in a biotope style setup with clear, cool, fast moving, and well oxygenated water, with lots of biofilm to graze on. They do not necessarily need all of this, but if you want to see those crazy bright colors you see online, you either need a biotope setup, ot photoshop. Vlow has some of what i think are S. percnopterygionus, which is one of my favorites because the males can change color a lot depending on their mood and age. Also they like to dig under rocks and hide there

This video seems to be a perfect tank for them and i want to do something like it someday.

Also theres tons of species youll find looking around on google and YouTube, they seem to be pretty popular in Japan so they get more of the rarer species. One time i had to read through a google translated forum post lol

Got a little time off this week and will visit some stores. I think I may have to clear some of the plants and put down a couple more rocks or driftwood to encourage more area for biofilm hrowth.

Ive heard people will put rocks in a bucket of water and leave then outside the whole day. Ive seen stiphodons at aquarium city, underwater depot, nature aquarium, and probably ck but i forget.

Thanks I was actually going to get a clear container and put it outside with rocks and some tank water to speed up the process.

Get a sterilite shoebox or larger. Keep it topped off with water and similar sized rocks that you can rotate through the tank as they build up film/algae. Direct flow at the rocks. Stiphidon gobies, rhino gobies, and hill stream loaches all will love this type of environment.

Trying to get a pair of Neon Blue Stiphodon. No love today as I called around. I see them online but $44 overnight shipping is too rich for me. If anyone sees them at a store in their travels please let me know.
