    Iwagumi

Trying my first iwagumi style tank
Had the urge to do it cause I had 20 long sitting around

This is what Iíve done so far, Iím using eco complete 1.5 bags so far might need more. Btw went with eco complete cause I donít have the money to drop for aquasoil. Iím plan to DSM but Iím not sure if itíll work since the substrate is inert but I heard you can spray fertilizer.

If you have any advice feel free to comment

    I can see it!

I think the rockwork looks nice, but maybe a little busy (too many rocks? Don't trust my taste, LOL)

What are you planning to plant it with?

Well the problem with eco complete and similar substrates is that they are just sharp bits of rock. It can be hard to plant many plants in it. What are you planning for plants? It's rare to get a good carpet with these substrates.

I think for me, the issue lies with your largest stone. It looks much different than the others, not really cohesive.

Have any of you guys done a carpet with eco complete?
I know its only been a week but I dont think its going well so far.
I dont know if theres too much moisture or not enough but seems like some parts are rotting might be from the excess water
If any one has any advice let me know please. I can always just remove and either try planting or just trying a different plant

I haven't used eco complete/monte carlo before, but I've had some success with a dry start using HC Cuba. The trick was to drain all the excess water to where there was never any on the substrate level. I would then spray it lightly with water once a week (airing it out around the same time). I think I was running ~10 hours of a light a day.

Eco complete in my opinion is not a great substrate for plants so that is why the mc isn't doing that well. For my dry start I normally don't allow the water to fill to soil level. I only keep the soil damp and moist, but never wet and soaked. Even with some fert spray it wouldn't help much so I would recommend switching to better substrate if possible if not good luck and hope it somehow grow in eco complete.

I was starting to pull out some of the rotted leaves and saw that some had rooted into the substrate already, so Iím going to go ahead and just continue it for now since I already started. Thanks for the tip I drained the tank up a bit

Some of the Monte Carlo in the bigger clumps began to carpet and grow some runners, itís just a bit harder since the substrate isnít that flat. Couldíve looked better if I had one more pot of Monte Carlo

Is there any other plants I can add besides the Monte Carlo and hairgrass?
