    Newbie

Hi! A newbie here. I'm from Torrance, CA. I found you guys on Pet Expo at OC Faire. The aquascapes I saw there were b-e-a-u-tiful! I have no idea where to start though, so I'll try to read forums and do more research.

I'm also a keeper of a mud turtle, a dwarf hamster and a fat-tailed gecko. I want to add fishies to my growing animal family, but all my life, I've been using plastic artificial greeneries. After seeing the set ups at the expo, it blew my mind and I wanted to keep a very much "alive" tank.

A great place to start is to decide on what size tank you want/can manage. Then figure out what you would like to keep/what you want to do with the tank. It helps to find pics of what you want to do.

Welcome to the Club! I was there at the booth at Pet Expo, glad to see you found your way to our forum.
Feel free to browse the forum and ask any questions you might have. If there is something specific you are looking for the answer to you can also try our search bar, there is TONS of information spread throughout the forum.
We are also having our next meeting at Nautilus Tropical Fish on Sunday, May 19th. Thats a great way to meet some fellow members in person, gather info, and pick up some killer deals in the auction.

    Hello Joan,
I was also at the expo. Glad you enjoyed our member's tanks and inspired you to join the club and add to your growing family

I'm sure a good majority of us were once there starting out with plastic plants (that was me 20 years ago, lol). Hope to see you at our next event in Lakewood.

    Hello and

I consider myself a newbie too as I joined less than 6 months ago. There's a lot of really good info here and going to the local meetings helped me start this new hobby without spending too much money. It really is so therapeutic to come home from work and just sit and watch the critters in your tank thriving in the environment that you carefully created for them.

Welcome to your new hobby and scape! You've made a fine choice.don't ever believe you need to limit yourself to just one tank, either!

Select a size that fits well for your space. Most successful starters often begin with a traditional 29 gallon which gives great study, reasonable depth, won't break the bank, and will offer many modular stand options.

Thanks for the advice! I was planning to upcycle my unused 10 gallon first, and rescue a betta fish. I have a few ideas in mind. I just need to do more planning
