    Walstad 6 gallon cube

Got this cube from ck for $25 since they got new Shrimp tanks, this is one of their old ones.

Trying out the walstad method, accidentally put about 1.25 inches of soil and 1.5 inches of cap, seen that usually 1 inch of soil so hopefully it’s fine

Lmk what you guys think and if you have an tips or suggestions for me

What are you using as the cap?

That soil layer could be an issue, unless you have lots of tanks with thorough root systems (like swords).

Youre right on that edge though, so it shouls work as long as theres some large root systems in the tank to help keep the aoil aerobic. Trumpet snails would help lots too. Or even blackworms.

I used a cycled HOB filter to jump start the cycle and seems like itís done. Question is if I remove it will my cycle hold?

On such a small tank id wait, maybe like a week since the water and substrate is mature. Dont have any experience with it though so get some other opinions

I read walstad's book a couple times. You did everything ok. Just remember to make sure that the tank is heavily planted from the beginning, like 80% planted.

Nice! I have some ludwigia repens trimmings you can add to this build. When you come pick up your shrimp.

This will look pretty cool once the dwarf hair grass fills in your foreground.

My experience with Walstad method is smaller 1 gallon bowls and vases. I use all plant trimmings and have had some good success. You on a good start here.

    Can't wait to see development.

    UPDATE

Not really a walstad anymore, just a dirted tank now. Added a couple more stems since the TC were growing too slow. So far itís been going good probably just need a better light, only thing is the dwarf hair grass isnít really carpeting, idk if I planted it too deep? I see them trying to grow but seems like they donít make it to the surface.

Tank is stocked with 6 Pygmy Corydoras and 6 clown killi and a couple of shrimps .jpg[/IMG]
