Hydra are a pain, and microscopic pieces can break off and regrow from what I've read.
Ive heard peroxide, directly injected on them, will kill them but wont hurt wildlife but physical removal just makes it spread...

Iím currently fighting hydra and planaria in my tank with sl-aqua Z1. CK fish world carries it. Definitely remove any type of nerite snails because they will die and foul the water. It comes with a measuring spoon, 2 spoon for 50 Liters (13 gallon). The dosing instruction is confusing so Iím doing 1 dose per week. Iím planning to dose 4 times (4 weeks) because planaria eggs hatch in about 3 weeks to kill any baby planaria.

Hereís some links to videos that the company made:

I just discovered hydra in my dank. Was going to try dosing Fenbendazone. What is a good dosing amount?

If you don't have a scale.....mix the packet up in a 16oz bottle of water (you might have to dump out a little water first).

    Shake really well to dissolve.

Divide solution between two clear plastic cups equally.

When bottle is empty....put a little more water in bottle because there will be undissolved crystals in the bottom.

Swirl around and divide between each cup to get them as even as possible.

Each cup will now treat 50 gallons.

Keep dividing the solution until you get close to your tank size.

Dose your tank once a day three days in a row.

25% water change on the 4th day.

I used SAFEGUARD and it killed the hydras....but it did not kill my fish, shrimps, snails, or plants.

    Glad to hear.

For anyone out there who does this, you don't see full results until the third day.

Ok so I just had hydra in my tank and with the help of this thread decided to use the panacur treatment. It worked beautifully and now all the hydra is gone.

The only thing is I think itís killing my nerite snails. I removed them from the tank prior to treating and kept them in a separate tank for 4 days, until I did a 30% water change. Then I drip acclimated them and put them back in the tank. In 2 days all of them were dead.

I figured this was because the levels of the medication were still too high in the water, so I did 2 or 3 more 30% water changes over the next month and then bought new nerite snails. I drip acclimated them, added them in, and they seemed ok (moving around and stuff). That was two days ago and now theyíre dying again.

The weird part is the fish, shrimp, and pest snails are all fine (I donít think the treatment killed a single pest snail, unfortunately). PH is around 7.5, nitrate less than 20, nitrite and ammonia are 0. I canít figure out why they would be dying other than from this treatment. Has anyone else experienced this or know of a way to fix this?

Sorry for such a long post, thanks for your help!

Yes, here has been multiple reports that Fenbendazole will kill nerites from different fish FB groups that I belong to.

Shoot. Have you heard of any successful ways to detoxify the aquarium other than just water changes? Do you think activated carbon would help?

I looked at veterinary sites and no specific antidote though not very toxic to most animals. The only thing they mention in case of accidental poisoning is feeding activated charcoal and treating symptoms. So maybe try a very good charcoal that includes the resins and such, water changes and extra aeration. But tht is a straight up guess.

Most medicinal treatments will kill nerites, some up to 3 years after use.

Thatís a long time... do you know if other types of snails would be hardier/more resistant to the medication? Such as ramshorn, Japanese trapdoor, etc?
