    Using river sand in aquarium?

Has anyone used sand that they’ve found in rivers in their tank? Thoughts on it? I brought home a small bucket from a dried up “river” near by. But it’s still cloudy. I washed it a few times, it was really dirty, and just dumped it in the tank. Anyways, just curious if anyone else has done it.

My main concern would be introducing unwanted stuff into your tank... even dried, there’s likely some living organisms in it... additionally, there’s always the risk of unknown and harmful residual pollutants from the water source that ran through it...

I guess you could super sanitize it, soak it in bleach, boil it, etc. But if theres pesticides or chemicals i dont know if you'll be able to get them out

I don’t think there would pesticides in the middle of a river tbh. I was a little worried about any pollutants, especially since we just had a huge rain storm. But I just gave it a quick rinse to remove most of the dirt or dust and dumped it in with some plants. I might even add some fish to see how they do.
