    Fish trap

Anyone aware of any off-the-shelf fish traps that work pretty well? I've already see the homemade soda bottle traps and can go that route but wouldn't mind a decent reusable trap if they aren't too expensive. I have to lighten the bio load a bit and don't want to tear up the plants - the tank is pretty thickly planted.

The aqua medic trap door is the one which i have.
It has some features to be desired, but it is the easiest to use - with quite a bit of patience.

Generally, the soda bottle is considered the best (at both a cost standpoint as well as convenience).

Ah - thanks. Looking at that price and my empty diet soda bottle I guess I know which way I'll go. Looks like there might be a market for some 3D printed traps if someone comes up with something. In fact I'm better the easy solution would be to design a screw on funnel/port to a soda bottle so you wouldn't have to cut and glue them.

I personally have never glued mine. If you cut it right, it will hold just fine.

Well this worked surprisingly well. I didn't catch all the fish I wanted to but did manage to lighten the tank load by 20 or so fish including an elusive 5+ inch Siamese Algae Eater who was always so alert I could never get him before he dived into the plants.

Could you share a link/guide to the DIY fish trap?
I'm going to need to setup something similar soon.

If you look up "soda bottle minnow trap" or "soda bottle fish trap" you'll find a ton.
