    Betta Koi Scape

So I was at CK Fish Store a few weeks back and I saw new stock of Bettas that resemble koi fish. They looked sooo cool! Even the wife was pushing to buy one. I also wanted to but resisted the urge since I didnít have a place to put them.

I kept thinking about them cute lil fishies and I was inspired to create this...

Still in the early trial stages. Going to add some moss on rock and on the trunk of the tree. Also going to make a wabi-kusa ball with moss wrapped around it and a fern and place it in the back just between the rock and back rim to help cover the heater and uptake tube. The air plant on wood is there temporarily. I was so happy with the outcome I just added the floaters and the air plant for looks.

Iíll follow up with developements and pics of the DIY filter I created for this set. Will also have a DIY light. Canít wait!

At michaels they have these huge glass bowls maybe a gallon or two, I think that would be a better fit! I had a female koi beta once but sadly died lol

This one is a tad bit over a gallon. I was sure to get some comments on size. Iíll see, thatís one of the reasons why the rock is 25% out of the water to allow for more swimming space. Iíll see how it goes after the scaping. Thanks, gonna check them bowls out at Michaelís. There is actually one a few blocks from where I work.

Home Goods is great for that kind of stuff too. And maybe Hobby Lobby also.

I had a shrimp setup in what looked like a giant brandy glass a few years ago that I got from Home Goods.

    Latest pics...

The Clown Kili that I’m glad nobody bought because he seems right at home
Some other fish that I bought but failed to remember the name of them. If anyone knows please let me know what kind they are.

A look from the rear at the DIY filter

Currently I’m using a desk lamp with fluorescent bulb. I will be upgrading to a really cool light fixture thanks to the generosity of @thethe.under.ground who hooked it up. Can wait to set the new lights up. I’ll post some pics really soon.

Oh, and I know the title says Betta koi but I decided against that after the build. It seemed much smaller after adding the substrate. The fish I got from CK were the smallest little guys and fit perfectly for this set up.

Latest update on my smallest little tank.

Many thanks to Abel @the.under.ground for hooking it up with this awesome light fixture.
I still don't have it exactly the way I want it. Did a lazy ass DIY and used a clamp and tie wraps to place the rod in position. Whatever works right?
If anyone has any suggestions/ideas, I'm open to your thoughts. It doesn't have a base. I was going to drill a hole on the driftwood and attach it in place but the rod is not long enough.

On a recent trip to Seattle I scored on this land moss. It's just everywhere over there.

This is where I get my buzz on while working on my mini scape

Wow itís looking so sick!! Youíre welcome man! I donít wanna ďtake overĒ the thread or anything but I built this light out of the lights I gave you
Hopefully you can use this as an example on how to mod the light! If you know basic electric wiring then youíre good!
Also, Iím liking the dry moss around the area looks so natural

That looks dope Abel! I was trying to figure out what you rigged up there but couldn't tell what it's from. I'll post another pic once I come up with something for the light.

Itís from a lantern that one of the engineers at my job had... it was like a small candle one. We cut the top big enough for the light socket fit. He did most of the work. Next meet maybe I can bring it so you can see how it was made!
Ps. We broke the rod in order to get into the wiring. Hope that helps!
