Well, I was really bummed to miss the meet today, but at least it gave me the chance to do some long overdue maintenance on the 135.

I havenít been able to trim or do a water change in like 6 weeks. You can see how things have deteriorated in that time- some plants growing out of control, others dying from lack of light, and unfortunately, I am getting some BBA outbreaks all across the tank. Arghhhh!

    Before:

After some serious trimming and a whole lot of hunting for BBA:

Itís hard to get good pictures of the geoís, because they are always moving- but they continue to thrive and make a mess of the gravel:

I decided to raise the lights up so there is a little more spread and a little less intensity. I have been moving away from the high-tech plants anyway. Seriously considering going low-tech and taking out the CO2 altogether. With the thickness of the glass and the tannins from the wood, I canít seem to get the colors I am wanting when viewing the tank, so I might just go green, green, green and simplify my life.

Wow love the tank! Looks good to me man I can only guess that the bba is due to lighting and co2 fluctuations.. happen to me once, lots of h202 treatments later Iím in the clear! Have you thought about using Purigen?

Oh man! Sorry to hear you dealing with the dreaded BBA. I also had that issue on my big tank. Lots of water changes and frequent dosing of H2O2 later I think everything balanced now. Good luck with that. Tanks still looking great!

Trying Hydrogen Peroxide and it is having *zero* affect? I wonder if there is just too much water in the tank for it to make an impact? Or too much flow?

I will try it with the filters unplugged.

I use a syringe to shoot affected areas. You have to turn off the filters and anything that creates flow so the hydrogen peroxide has contact time with affected areas (at least 10 minutes). I also have mollies and guppies that like to eat off the dead algae, when it turns grayish brown. I've used up to a standard 16oz bottle followed with a 20-30 percent water change.

Gotta do that again cuzz I am getting some areas with that sucka again! It's mostly on the areas directly below my kessils that get the most light.

    Anyway, good luck with it.

Thanks- I use a bulb syringe, too. I have done it successfully in the past with smaller tanks- but I never turned off my filter before.

I think 2 FX4ís are too much flow- thanks for the tip!

Enough to fill the bulb syringe over each spot? Didnít measure how much each dose was, unfortunately.

So, this is happening today. Sometimes to love your creations, you have to be willing to tear them down.

Rescape now, so it is hopefully ready for the meeting. It was literally the only way to remove the geoís, and I can attack the BBA at the same time. I think I am going to lose the emerged growth on the right side.

I have to admit, the empty tank has a certain appeal.

I’m excited to see what you come up with.... it was beautiful before... if you go lower tech, I would suggest maintaining pres co2 in such a large tank, even if not to the same degree... do you think your tanks proximity to the window has had any effect?

Hey, so what did you decide to replace the geo’s with???

Well, an awful lot of work to not look that much different at a glance. You will have to trust me that it is a lot more open- both for plants and fishies.

Raised the height of the rock wall in most places, and replaced the mess from the geoís with fresh sand.

Eliminated a lot of smaller wood pieces- I think they were breaking down and contributing to the BBA by having a lot of surface area for it to grow.

Not quite sure what to do about the large rocks it is on- I will try attacking them with H2O2 now that I took care of every leaf I could see.

Managed to successfully snag the geoís, too!

Made a (not so) quick trip to CK to trade in the geoís for some baby angels and a Holland Ram. Picked up some emerald Coryís so my few remaining lasers are not as lonely- I didnít update on this, but the geoís really picked on the Coryís.

New picks tomorrow once everything is settled and clear!

    Nice to see you @swoof!

I admire the take charge attitude and diving right to tackle the problem. Very brave, but I'm sure very rewarding.

It is a German Blue Ram, bred to be about 25% larger, with emphasis on the more wild caught coloring, unlike the typical ďblueĒ or ďgoldĒ ram.

You should definitely see some if you come to the meet- CK typically has them in stock.
