I am wondering if that diatomic algae could be picked up by brackish water hermit crabs and if your puffer would leave them alone.

I'm not sure, the puffers are really docile towards eachother and the green scat, at least for now, but I'm weary of much else. I dropped 2 red claw crabs in for food for the puffers about a month ago, one was gone almost instantly, the other disappeared after putting the big figure 8 in. I have also had 4 bumblebee gobies and a knight goby completely disappear from the tank, and that was before the big puffer came.
I did a search for brackish clean up crews, theres not really much, and pretty much nothing thats compatible with the puffers long term. Some people have had limited success with mollies, I might try that out since they aren't so expensive.

Mollies are a great cleanup crew for BBA, but they will probably not touch any diatomic algae. Though there are certainly some strange ones.

You could possibly try.... Phosban from seachem. Along with purigen, or perhaps you could try. Chemi pure elite.

I do no enjoy jumping to chemical, but I am sure you would prefer to have white sand again.

Eh, I'm honestly not all that worried about. It wasn't white to start, just regular pool filter sand with some crushed coral. I'm planning on the more natural look for the tank so the substrate color will change more and more over time.

I was able to get some more pictures of the big Figure 8 Puffer while feeding them some snails. This guy is THE biggest Figure 8 I have seen and he seems right at home in the tank.

I've decided to call him Brutis, he's just so big and when he see's food he wants he gets it. All the fish in this tank now have names. The bigger of the 2 GSP's is Little Bob, the other is Kirby, and the Green Scat is Larry.
I haven't seen any aggression between any of the puffers or with the scat, they are all pretty docile and just swim around. I'm thinking about tossing in a few pieces of Java Fern, the tank needs more green in it lol.
