    Nerite Eating Anubias Leaves

I added a single Nerite snail to my tank two days ago, and since then there have been bite marks showing up on my Anubias leaves. Visually it looks similar to when you see the pith after zesting an orange. The leaves are green and then there are sudden markings of white. There are no pinholes to be found. Also, the affected leaves are only in the area where the nerite has been grazing.

It was my understanding that Nerites only consume algae and decaying matter. Has anyone else had experience with Nerites eating leaves? It's the only inhabitant in the tank. Unfortunately I'll have to re-home it if this keeps up.

They can also be known to eat soft leaves. I remember back in the day people losing carpets of hc Cuba to nerites.

Ouch. I was hoping to keep the nerite for general tank cleanliness, but it might not work out. Anubias doesn't grow fast enough to have a couple leaves ruined per day.

That would be exciting if that were the case. All of the anubias in this tank is propagated from the same plants I've had for 2 years. None of which has ever shown white coloring.

I just did abput 2 weeks researching snails and your species only eats leaves that are dying. They will not eat fresh green leaves. The plant may look healthy but the snails know when its dying so they will clear it for you. Do not worry my friend whatever the snail doesnt eat the plant will absorb as nutrition
