CK Fish World has Fissidens Fontanus a.k.a. Phoenix Moss, was just in there yesterday. The mini Pellia (coral moss) might be a little harder to find. Would probably have to get some from another SCAPE member. You could also try Lotus Aquariums in Hawthorne or Bob's Tropical Fish in Alhambra, they usually have a decent amount of tissue cultures, would call first.

I was in Bob's Tropical last week, they have both mini pelia and Fissidens tied on SS mesh in 1 or 2 of his tanks. I picked up a Tropica tissue culture of Ranuculus. This place has really improved, wish they had more room to expand. Parking is tough so plan ahead.

Both are common in scape auction. Hopefully a meeting pops up soon, if you can't find it elsewhere. Like others said. Fissidens is easy to find. Riccardia will be more difficult to source.

Thanks! Called and they still have some available. Hopefully it's still there Sunday. I've been to Bob's before, and parking is almost non existent. Once parked by the gas station and was almost towed.

I usually park near the church? I think the building across the gas station and its usually fine. Granted im only there for max 15-20 min

started noticing this string like thing growing on some of the plants in my tank. anyone have an idea what it is? and if so, how can I combat it. all I've done so far is just pull what I can with my tongs. so far it's not all over, just in a few spots.

Hair moss maybe. Daily manual removal is a good start. If tongs or tweezers are troublesome at pulling it out, try a toothbrush. It just latches on to the bristles. Some more experienced folks might be able to tell you how to successfully get rid of it for good.

Not sure what kind of algae this is. Looks to be some sort of filamentous algae. I would give h2o2 and excel a shot. If you wanna spend the cash on it Algaefix(not safe for shrimp) may remedy it.

I googled images of hair algea yesterday to compare them, but the algea I have looks a bit different but I'll definitely try the toothbrush. I also cut a few of the stems that had clumps of this stuff. I got this plant last year at the CK Scape meet in September. won it at the auction for a buck and it was called Creeping Jenny. Its a pretty nice stem plant.

but yeah I'll try to see if I can get any better photos today, cause I don't think it's the algea you mentioned. or at least it's not green, it's hair like in appearence. it was also attached to some red root floaters pretty bad. I've never dosed with h2o2 or excel, but chances are I'll try excel.

My vote is for excel.
In my experience, (take it for what it's worth) I skip the initial big dose, and just dose the maintenance amount. Every couple weeks, you can increase the dose slightly. (By 25% or so) I've dosed about 3 times the normal maintance dose (as directed, only a higher dose) and shrimp and cories were fine. (I wouldn't go over double dosing full time, I went up to 3x when I was trying to work out an algae problem)

H202 (hydrogen peroxide) or excel can also be used to spot treat.
Turn off the filter, place a syringe or dropper full underwater and squirt a little on the problem areas. In 5-10 minutes, turn the filter back on.

I've had a string or two of that, just manually pulled what I saw. I have dramatically increased plant load, aeration and changed the lighting to a more 'white' light (Finnex) and some combination of these factors seems to have kept it from reappearing. I do also have a bunch of hungry shrimp.
