    Delivery question.

So I was checking the tracking number for one item I ordered online. Iím in Los Angeles CA and the item was delivered from Walnut CA. I donít understand how the item went to Memphis TN and back to CA.

Has anyone had this happen before?

It looks like it went to Atlanta, Georgia before Memphis, lol. What is it you ordered?

USPS may be using FedEx. FedEx sometimes homes through Memphis. Kinda weird though.

I had a package leave compton tracking did not update for 3 days. Then it showed NJ, Then the following day NY out for delivery, Then New York "something something hub" then back to NJ. At this point I called USPS and stopped checking my tracking 4 days later or so the package arrived.

Something went wrong with the label or address information.

Most of the time, it will ship back/return to the sender.

If you didn't get it, ask seller to follow up with shipper. Or ask for label/packing list address information.

The most frustrating experience though was during the holidays. I saw something leave city of industry 20 min away, head into Los Angeles hub "arrival scan" 12 days later it updated (processed through) and was delivered the following day. (Seller did not offer local/will call)

I received them today actually. I just thought it was weird that they would have the package go all over and out of state when Iím less than an hour away.

I've worked the conveyer belts before, and there are times the sort lands on the wrong belt, and doesn't go to the end of it where it can be routed to the correct location, and gets put on the wrong truck. Bulk carriers for usps include dhl, fed ex, ups, as well as local carriers.

It happens, and when it does it has the potential to go around d the entire world. It only takes one sorting mistake for it to go into the national tour.

I used to see PetSmart and Petco orders with the "LiveFish" sticker on the boxes every once in a while. They ship theirs using 2nd Day Air Saver, so the tracking requirements are less strict.

I used to also see some of the specialty Vendors, like Live Aquaria who would use Next Day Air for their orders. This service gets a handling scan on every single conveyor belt and every point of human contact, and then placed on the driver's front seat (as long as it fits) with a report that is signed and then handed off to a supervisor who verifies that it will be going to the correct location.

The next day air is the same service that hospitals and donor networks use to transfer organs across country.

Items sent via "media mail" will often do this, as it is a method of shipping reserved for low weight items requiring the least amount of urgency, and meant to fill in any sort of gaps that will allow it. Sometimes this will send it to the other side of the country before it has a place good enough for it to fit its economy.

Media mail is one of the weirdest shipping methods, period, because it saves the shipper oodles of money with the exception that no one is going to even look at the label until it gets to a sorting facility that has time /resources to handle it.

It was not media mail, it was 1-2 day priority mail. Same thing happened with 30+ other items, but for much shorter durations 3-4 days tops, most of these items shipped from Socal. SD/Walnut//SFV/Torrance/LA.

Man....you should see all the shipping labels that were on my 2 Chihiros lights I ordered off of Wish. Those lights took 2 months to "see the world" before coming home lol.
