The only cycling he did was ride his bike around the block.

Also..this is a custom acrylic tank with a white back that he made himself. The green riccia looked really nice against a white back. You can see the riccia growing on the HOB.

Maybe he has the right formula.
When I was super busy and didn't touch my tank for months, my shrimp population blow up and I had to sell 100s, yahh!. Now I have more time and I am always doing something with my tank, the shrimp population is not growing.

    That's my experience.

    Yup,

When I was breeding my Crystal Shrimp I did nothing and I had a ton to sell. I always give people that advice to not mess with their tanks too much after it's setup. You need the tank to get dirty to build up a huge bacterial colony and for a bit of sediment/mulm to build up in the substrate. After that you only really need to do water changes every couple months and rinse out the filter every 6 months.

I can't perfect a high tech tank... probably can't perfect a low tech shrimp tank as well. But I'll give it a shot!

Yea James has some of the coolest projects on SCAPE. I remember he had orange eyed tigers with black worms at some point haha.

Well from my experiences, my shrimp do better when I just top off. My tds is around 500. When I become anal about the TDS and try to get it lower from water changes, I notice my shrimps start dying/getting devoured by pond snails. Stable water parameters can't be beat, also PS: Call me the shrimp killer

    RIP 20 black crystal shrimp
    RIP 28 fire/cherry shrimp

Still got 2 fire shrimps left in my 5g (Fluval Spec V) from the last CK meet. Hope its a male and female so they can rebound the population.
