This picture doesn't do it justice, but I love the lavender on the underside of the stellata leaves.

Safe to say I am pretty happy with my first experience using capped potting soil!

60 days ago, these were tissue samples from Petco.

Ok, I have to get through all the RAOK responses and pick ups before I will have time for new pictures, but I did a *major* trim/cull last night and pulled some things out altogether to make room for more plants.

So funny- when I first pictured this tank I was thinking 3-5 species max, mostly just using it as a way to farm 049 and learn about dosing. Now I have some really cool plants I never expected, and it is growing faster than I can keep up!

    I love this hobby!

Check back in a few days for updated pictures of my newest additions- some sweet little syngonanthus.

I did a more careful trimming of the AR tonight, removing a lot of the larger leaves in addition to the tops I gave away for the RAOK. Happy to see that most of the newer leaves are a lot more red. Still not the deep red I am hoping for, but a better contrast to the rocks. You can also see I started a small patch of moss thanks to @twin335i - hopefully it will add a deeper green to contrast even better with the AR.

Hey all! Will post some pics in just a bit.

In the meantime, did the full range of API testing today, and I have a couple of questions:

pH 6.8-7.0 (hard to tell on the API chart)
    Nitrate 0 ppm
    Nitrites 0 ppm
    Ammonia 0-.25 ppm
    GH 5
    KH 5

So here are my questions: considering I am dosing KNO3, is it odd that I am consistently measuring 0 Nitrates?

Also, assuming the tests are correct, why would I be detecting Ammonia, but have zero Nitrites?

Ok, some pre and post trim pictures. The P. stellata seems unstoppable, so I trimmed it way back this time to make more light for the Ludwigia arcuata, and the pantanal nubbins I placed behind the rock in the spirit of blind optimism.

The AR and and repens are not bouncing back as strongly as they did after the first time I trimmed them, I am not sure why.

The new AR leaves are darker (good) but crimped (not good).

Against all odds, the syng samples I got have not melted, and even seem to be growing a little. Crazy.

Keeping the CO2 on the low side, but not sure how low. Are there CO2 testing kits?

    Anyways, on to pics!

    Before trim:

My repens and AR seemed unstoppable for the first 90-ish days of my tank, but since I did a big RAOK a couple of weeks ago, they have been really struggling to bounce back.

The AR color is coming in darker, but clearly not happy overall.

Did I trim too aggressively? Is it because I have edged back the CO2 since adding shrimp?

I have not made any changes with my EI dosing.

    Water parameters are above.

    Any and all help appreciated!

A little bit every day- flake first for the swimmers, then 3-4 pellets for the corys.

Try to increase your co2 slowly, adjust it till the co2 indicator turn green (wait for 1 or 2 days), check the growth after a week.

Is a green indicator still a safe level for fish and shrimp?
