The one that you picked up from auction looks to be emersed form and the one established in your tank looks like submersed form.

Interesting! Well I like the way it looks, and apparently I will have a lot of it, soon.

Please enlightenment me if im wrong.

As far as I know most hygrophila are long leaves with vein that can be seen.

The picture Tom show looks like ammania or nessea golden. Not many people can turn them into gold. I've been failing so many times to keep them nice and gold without algae.

I would say you are lucky to find them $1 in auction.

Continuing to observe the mystery plant and the Hygrophila “Tiger”- I am convinced they are different.

I am leaning more and more that the mystery plant is some kind of ammania.

I kept ammania in my old tank, but that specimen got much larger- leaves were like 4-5” long.

Here is a pic from tonight- Tiger is on the bottom.

Ok, so that Hygrophila “tiger” is growing like *crazy*! Way too big of a plant even to keep in the grow out tank. Leaves are like 4”+ now. It grows interestingly, too- not straight up, but in “kinks”, with roots starting at each angle in the stem. I bet it could be grown horizontally, like araguaia...

Lol, yeah thats a plant for a tall tank, maybe a 29g. I had some cabomba that I let grow and grow for the auction at Lotus and the trimmings I got were almost 3 ft. Grow out tank looks nice. You know....if you take off those labels it will go from a "grow out tank" to just a tank? Lol

Just some proof of life pics- did a major trim on the main tank, rearranging the front a bit. Cleaned up the grow out tank quite a bit, too.

That grow out tank is getting filled out fast. Looks like it's time to clear or set up another one

It’s time to set up the BIG tank, but I keep hitting financial roadblocks, unfortunately.

*super* excited I found some hygrophila araguaia, though! I hope I can get it to grow out with a lot of red.

Anyone have tips on how to trim/propagate Periscaria sp.? The 3 samples I have are growing well, but just straight up- no signs of branching- and now are breaching the surface of the 29g.

    Thanks!

Same as any other step. Trimming the tops will trigger growth at lower nodes. The plant will always try it's best to grow very vertical.
