Thanks for posting about the coast meeting James! Very good talk by Mr. John Pitcairn on the topic... some tips given re: daphnia is to add fallen leaves to the water... as they break down, the daphnia apparently feed on the bacteria produced

He raised his in small ponds, adding black worms... the daphnia filter water for the worms and the worms produce a bacteria source in turn... and then u have two live food sources...

Additionally, watch temp - as you have done, he emphasized using a shaded spot to ensure that water stays cool...

Lastly, the larger the housing for daphnia the better as well - often with smaller containers, pollutants or fouling water more readily causes populations to crash...

Just wanted to share a conversation regarding this topic from "across the pond....". Looking at UKAPS threads, I sometimes get very jealous of what other countries have in terms of plants and equipment... very cool things happening internationally...

I would buy a bucket lid and a roll of screen and DIY a lid for those mosquitos! anyone try this? A more simple way would to just pull string the screen over the bucket though.
May the SCAPE be with you.

Weekly harvest of daphnia for my fish.

    Photo Aug 16, 6 15 35 AM.jpgPhoto Aug 16, 6 20 08 AM.jpg

Photo of some of the buckets with daphnia cultures.

The green bucket is the newest setup with starter daphnia added a few days ago.

The other 2 buckets are more mature and filled with dapnhia in there. They really thrive.

Danny, see that hygrozyra floater? Hahaha, it's getting so big and fast. I already cut it down and put in other tanks several times.
