Trying a Solenoid on Fluval 88

Well since I ended up with a Fluval 88 from pet expo I have been going nuts each morning and night as I was warned. So it's time to get creative... I added an external solenoid to it! It's on a timer with the light and over all cost $45 with the timer. Hope it works and let's me actually get my CO2 level right.

    This is what I bought:

Milwaukee Instruments MA955 Solenoid Valve for Co2 Dosing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C2DVD2W..._suVDEbhA9lppF

    Please wish me luck!

I really like that solenoid. Simply enough, it is an in line.

We were playing with regulators at work a couple years back, and i always thought it would be fun to make a pressurized loop with multiple solenoid outputs for many tanks.

This would still be expensive, but darn if it would not do the job.

you do know these 88g cylinders get quite expensive over time. If you want to keep using that regulator i would suggest getting a paintball adapter. Refills on a 24oz paintball cylinder only costs a few dollars (less than ONE 88g one time use)

Oh that is planned... especially being the tank is eating CO2... gonna grab an adapter. Then I need a second solenoid for my paintball regulator 😊

In my opinion, the solenoid is critical for any successful CO2 systems. The paintball adapter also helps quite a bit. If you want to get fancy, you could start to look into controllers! I love pH controllers on big tanks, but it can be hard to justify the cost on something small.

Hmm... could be worth it for a display tank next year. But that will be a way bigger system.

So the solenoid worked well. Additionally, the 88g was just converted to a paintball tank. First connection... didn't use teflon tank. Total fail. Empty tank in 20 minutes. Second round, been on for an hour, still holding psi. Now, have to refill my other tank and try the other one on my 6 gallon. Kinda neat.

Might as well go with a full size tank vs even a paintball setup. I think I spent around $10-12 to refill a 10lb tank vs the $3-5 I was paying for a 24oz bottle
