The goal is to have a carpeting plant over the majority of the Substrate, I considered something that would contrast the rock but the plants work, the green contrast will be what looking for.

As far as fluorite being old
School, I'm new to FW so I claim noob status.

Got some stuff today...the light color looks really good, not to yellow, not to blue. The finnex canister is the perfect size.

    Let's hope no leaks!

I got the little bit of contro soil I have from a bag substratesource.com used on a tank at pet expo. Buceplant.com also carries it. Not something you'll find in most stores.

    CK Fishworld carries Contro Soil.

Console table where the tank wil be house should be here Wednesday. Added some black fluorite sand today to get an idea of the scape. I'm considering adding in some gold decomposed granite into the mix of black but unsure at this point.

Everything is up and running. Picked up a trio of harlequin rasboras, couple ghost shrimp and a horned nerite.

I lost one of the rasboras but everything else seems to be ok. The Monte Carlo is browning in some spots but new growth in others, going to leave it alone for a while and see what happens.

I started dosing flourish excel, 10 drops the first day and 5 each day since. Lower than the recommended amount but considering how new everything is wanted to take it slow.

Really nice..... Hard scape came out great simple and clean just my style. Going to look great once filled in. The only problem I see are not much fast growing plants could lead to algae on a new setup. The excel will help but not sure how much.

The lighting is not terribly strong and I'm only running an 8 hour light cycle, hoping that will mitigate a fair amount of algae growth but I'm sure I'll have to deal with some.

Picked up some golden tetras and cherry red shrimp from CK's today.

All but one of the tetras look pretty good and they all ate right away....I love the metallic shimmer these guys put off.
