    Elassoma affinis evergladei!

Can't get enough of this little awesome looking tiny fish. These are Elassoma affinis evergladei. They are as of yet an undescribed species, 3 mile creek, Alabama.

These fish are so easy to keep and fun to watch. They can be housed in a small jar of pair or even grow out. Breeding pairs are good in even a 2 litter jar. In the morning, the males turn very dark, almost black with the striking blue/green spots that are just awesome to look at. Mature males will get up to 1 inch in size and the females are a bit smaller.
Their jars do not need filtration, no heater, no lights (except window light for the plants and the growth of micro organisms as food). They love plants, lots of it. Parents will leave the fry alone and keep breeding by scattering eggs on the plants. Bigger fry however will eat their small siblings so removing bigger fry to grow out setup is needed for the sake of their young and newly hatched brothers and sisters.

Their fry, however, are super super super super tiny and almost 1/5 the size of a newly hatched betta fry.

It took me some time to be able to breed them and now they're thriving comfortably in the setups that I have for them. They, however, only feed on live food so if you are planning on keeping these you should have some source of live food on hand for their needs.
    Enjoy.

Where did you get this fish? Anyway I can buy some future newborn broods from you?? I love small low maintenance fish like this. I tried the micro rasboras and galaxy danios, but the suck, high maintenance and usually die out quickly for me.

Beautiful fish thanks for sharing. I wonder if they could ever be switched to frozen Daphnia or something.

    Thanks.

I did. The adults can accept frozen blood worms just fine. I don't have frozen daphnia. However, when the weather is better I'll culture some.

I separated out about 8 breeding pairs now. They are so interesting. I was gonna bring some to the last SCAPE meet but the location got switched and I changed my plan.
But I will surely bring some to the future SCAPE meet to share with others.

You won't tell me where you live. You don't answer my texts till three days later if I text you when I'm in your area. .. . .
