Definitely agree with using the one type of stone and grouping the plants together. The different stone, which unfortunately the sand stone is the most out of place, was something to be natural but allow a cave like item(not fully natural especially how I did it.) for my wife to be happy with for looking at the fish.

As for the irganic dirt and gravel ill have to look into it. Thanks.

the sand (beach area could work even with the cave. Just remove the grey stone in the back, rearange the black lava rock and replant some grass aroun the cave to soften the edges.

Hmmm interesting idea with grass softening the edges. I think I have an idea to make that work.

    A slight update.
I have my first pregnant shrimp and sunset platy. Trying to figure out accommodations for both.

I would say the odds of any baby shrimp seeing adult hood is 0. There is not enough places to hide. Same with the platy. Get some floaters to help survival rate of your young.

Definitely agree Zackariah. I am planning on moving both the platy and shrimp to a Small Fry tank(s) so i can raise the fry and baby shrimp in the next week or two.

Sweet. I hope that works. Once your tank grows in you probably will not have to do that and at least a few will make it. I still recommend floaters. I have been trying to get dwarf water lettuce for a bit with no luck. I did find some red root floaters and some Azolla. Give me a few weeks and I'll send you out some if you want.

Thanks. By the way I appreciate the offer on the floaters. I am actually going to be upgrading the 29g to a 55g because it will look better in the location of the room we have it in. We havent even put water or soil in and it looks a ton better. It just will take a while to build. Any suggestions on getting a lot of cheap plants for a 55g to make it grow into a heavily planted tank?

So decided to upgrade our 29g to a 55g to make it fit better on the wall in the room. Here are some progressing photos. Thanks to Zachariah for the plants.

Thanks guys I am calling this my dark rock version "Valencia Hills" inspiration from the lish green hills in valencia right now. Today the poppy flowers bloomed.

I get my large lava rocks from american builder's supply. I got about 75 lbs of rock fpr about $20. Red lava was like 20- 33 a pound. They have both red and black. Black is a little more expensive I think.

Quick update on my 55 gallon after a couple weeks after planting. I didnt fertilize quickly enough so there was some die off but most of the plants are coming back quite nicely.
