Is it just sand for the substrate? Or more to it?

The white area is white sand sand. The tan area is a polished gravel that looks similar to Tigers eye or petrified Wood.

Thanks for the kind words. I will update today It has some changes since the meet at ck

I love mopani. It takes a while to find all the right pieces, and sometimes you have to buy more than you need, but it looks like you got all the best in that tank.

    Very beautiful tank.

Tank is going okay. I have been dealing with algae lately but it's getting better slowly but surely. Here are some current pics.

Really nice use of the mopani wood. Mopani typically has heavy tannins. Did you boil it much before using it?

Yes I boiled them. I have also had most of this mopani in aquariums for a few years so it is pretty much all leached out.

Quick update. I accidentally nuked my Christmas moss on the big branch in the middle of the tank. I sprayed it with Excel to kill some algae and left it on too long. Algae was dead but so was the moss. I cut it back and it is regrow ingredients slowly but surely. The buce on that branch was also hit pretty bad. I removed all the dwarf sag and replaced it with the HM. I felt the pearl weed will provide better sanctuary for baby shrimp. I also removed all the hygrophila pinnatifida. It was not growing well. The left corner is now made up of sunset Rotala and blyxa japonica. So far I'm happy with how it growing in. I think I'm going to replace the white sand with a natural looking sand or black. Any thoughts? Here is a current picture.

I like the white sand look. Do you have to clean it often?

It does start to get dingy. The Cory's do a good job of sifting it. But after a bit I need to go in and mix it all up real good.

Looks great I like the HM foreground and how it's growing on intert sand. At first I thought you have too mischief light for your plant load but looks like it's growing good.

It definitely was too much light at first. Hence the algae battle. I now just have the 48" and 36" planted plus pros.

Got a nice Flower! Guess I'm doing something right. I have been dealing with a great deal of dust as you can see in the picture. I took off the previous sponge filters for my canisters. We will see if the increased flow will help.

unfortunatley most of this and all my tanks died. I was gone on vacation for a week and aparently my home thermostat failed and my ac did not kick on for who knows how long but when I got home it was 105 in my house! the only plants/fish that survived are some crypts, my anubias, HM, 1 Cardinal tetra and 7 GBRs. time to start over
