    40B and 29 Gal

st joined this awesome community, and someone had asked me to post pics of my tanks in here. Currently i have a 40B, 29 Gal, 20 Long ( still deciding what direction to go ), 7 Gal, and a 5 Gal. The 7 Gal doesn't have anything but water and substrate till this weekend, it is a tank i build myself with some random glass laying around.

My 29 Gal was my first tank i ever owned, bought it a few years ago when i move in with my girlfriend who is now my wife. It had been torn down when we move due to no space for it, and sat in the garage for a few years. When we bought a house last year i was able to set it back up one of my good friends told me i should look into planted aquariums. Thus started the obsession i now have with planted aquariums.

I dose excel and PPS Pro in the 40B and 29 Gal. The 5 gal betta tank gets water changes and thats it.

I will warn that my pictures are from my cell phone, and i lack good picture taking abilities.

    Welcome Sam!

I am jealous of the number of tanks you have... I think my girlfriend is willing to let me get another one soon though .

I am still very much in the learning stage as well. There are a lot of kind, knowledgeable people on here.

What color substrate did you decide to go with for the 7g?

I got lucky with my wife. The trick for me is to let her have a couple fish she really wants. she really wants a common pleco but i told here they need a 100+ gal tank, so this summer were planning on setting up a 150 gal tank so she can have a huge pleco. The 7 Gal has Seachem Flourite for the substrate. The LPS had a bag of it when i was there getting stuff for the dogs, and decided to give it a try.

    Welcome! Nice tanks.

Can you let us know about the performance of the Hydor filters? I was thinking of the larger one for an 80 gallon.

Thanks! The hydor filters are awesome. I am a big fan of them. Been running the 450 on my 29 Gal since October 2015, and the 600 on the 40B since january of this year. Both of them i had to choke the flow a little because they were blowing around a hair much. Once the plants got established and started filling in i was able to open it up a little more.

I've been running a Hydor for the last 6 months. When you come pick up that Lava Rock, you can check it out.

I enjoy the Planted+ 24/7. In 24/7 mode without co2 i was getting a bit of algae. I run it on a timer at about 80% with a 2 hour break in the middle, and that seems to help with algae. I do plan on switching to the Kessil A160WE in the next month or so for no reason other than i like the pendant look. The 24/7 will be going up to my 29 Gal more than likely.

So i did a bit of a rescape because i wasn't liking the way my attempt at a moss tree was coming out. I also added a handful of plants from the LFS. I will being switching to pressurized co2 with a custom AlanLe build, should be here in a week or two. I'm a little lost on how i want to scape the tank.

I am planning on switching to black sand substrate next month sometime, the PFS is nice but i have discovered i like the darker substrate over the lighter.

    20160424_123423.jpg

Hoping the co2 helps with growth, especial with S. Repens. I want to add DHG Belem in the foreground on the left side. Also wondering if the finnex 24/7 doesn't provide enough coverage front to back.

Its been a few months of growth in the 40B. Wanted to post a little update. I got a CO2 regulator from Alan Le, and setup a 15lb tank on the 40B. It is a solid regulator and anybody looking at moving to pressurized i would highly recommend reaching out to Alan. He was a pleasure to work with and answered any questions i had since this was my first time doing pressurized CO2.

Been battling some BBA in the tank, i think i had some algae growing in the sand substrate. I replaced half the substrate with fresh sand and been dosing excel to battle the BBA. So far the tank seems to be heading in the right direction growth wise.

    20160607_175444.jpg
This is the tank on June 7th, you can see the sand was getting pretty bad and you can see some BBA forming on the Staurogyne Repens.

    20160629_104059.jpg
This is from June 29th, when i did the big sand replacement.

    20160629_130658.jpg
This is same day as sand replacement but after i trimmed some of it.

I am not a huge fan of the white sand, and i am planning on replacing it with eco-complete and flourite black sand in 2 weeks or so. Will also change the background to black from the frosted since part of it is peeling off. I feel that the Finnex 24/7 doesnt quite have enough spread to cover the tank front to back, so im trying to decide on which light to get to supplement it.

So i added a Kessil H150 grow light my aunt had gotten me for Christmas to see how it did for the plants. My initial plan was to run this H150 with a pair of the A160WE tuna suns, but some downsizing at work has put a hold on that.

    20160709_160353.jpg
This is the full tank shot with the new Kessil H150 running. On the second day the plants had already started to pearl more than with just the Finnex fixture.

    20160710_171346.jpg
This is a close up of the Rotala about an hour or so after the Kessil was off with some of the bubbles still on the leaves.

Sorry for the phone pix but i lost my nice camera sometime after i moved into my new house.

Hey Benjamin, it looks like the H160 Magenta. My question is if it could grow aquatic plants

    40B and 29 Gal

For sure a magenta. I have had both red and magenta in the past testing them out with pairs of 160 suns. The magenta was more toleable to me but in the end I couldnt take the color hue.

They work pretty good as supplemental "PUR" spectrum blasts when close to the surface and within 16-20 in deep.

Oh yeah, forgot you picked those up lol.

This is the only picture I could find with them on, was straight outta the box first time I used them all together from about 18" above tank. Don't have any other pictures of the other setup I did with these for some reason.
