    Daphnia help?

I have been unsuccessful at raising daphnia. I think this really warm weather is what has been holding me back. How are you guys keeping yours cool? Is anyone else having this issue? Any tips or suggestions welcome.

Give up until the weather gets cooler. Most Daphnia quit reproducing somewhere in the low seventies, so it takes a really large volume of water to stay that cool. On the bright side, since Daphnia in nature are seasonal, come winter you'll be doing great! Hot weather is the time to switch to mosquito larvae.

How do you feed your fish the mosquito larvae?
What are your steps, do you rinse them first before feeding so the water doesnt get poluted? Or do u just scoop em and put in tank

Use your best judgement. obviously if the water is dirty you don't want to add it directly to your tank.

I too have failed to keep my tank cool enough. There was a day last week that was particularly cloudy, I didn't think it would heat up so much. Apprently thermal radiation made it right through when I went outside barefoot in the afternoon the ground was scorching hot. went to check on the daphnia culture and most were gone and the ones that were alive looked like they were suffering, I moved the tank into the shade. Next day all were gone... moved some skinny cpd into the tank to eat up the seed shrimp I had swimming around in there... Will give it a try again in the wintertime.

I guess I'm lucky with the weather then since Santa Monica doesn't get too hot . My daphnia cultures are still thriving. I just set up 2 more buckets.

All 3 large cultures crashed here... I live in Cerritos too and it's been rather hot.... once things cool, I'll try again... I got mine from a guy In Dallas - pretty nice shipments too... happy to share or do a group buy after the summer heat passes... with global warming, who knows when that'll be!
