North American Native beauty! The drab little one is a female
Sweet looking fish! Where'd you get it from?
There were some pygmy sun fish in the betta auction. I tried but the price for the trio shot up fast.
Great pics Pete. Miss seeing you at the meets.

those are pretty sweet looking!
Great looking. What temp and water conditions you running? Any luck with breeding?
I keep them in a 10g mostly at room temp, anywhere from 68f-75f. I do have a heater in there set to go on if temps drop below 65f.
I keep them at a ph 69 with 50/50 RO/Tap. It's not necessary but that's the water change they get when I do my other tanks with. Only real requirement is that they very much prefer live food. But some folks have them trained to take frozen blood worms. They like still water so no ruff currents for them. There can be some good flow along as there is an area where they can rest from the current.
I don't put much effort into the scape, They really like it messy and it helps to break line of sight between the males. They do a really neat little dance waggle when defending their area or when trying to impress a female. They have bred but I didn't put much effort into in helping with their young. This time around I'm ready with micro foods for them.
How do you breed these fish? Do they give live birth or lay eggs? If laying eggs, will they eat their own eggs or protect them like chilids do?
Nice fish! I've never seen them before. Thank you for sharing the pics!
I definitely know what fish to get for my next tank.

Where did you get them? Have you got them eating flake/pellets?
I would also like to know where you got them at, also are they safe with celestial pear danio and are they about the same size? danio is about an 1" i believe max... from what i heard these fish can be 1.25" max right? are they shrimp safe also or will they hunt them down and eat them? Aggressive fish or peaceful like the CPD?
He said he got them from aquaculturestore.com
I dont think they have any more of these cause i haven't seen them being listed there at the website.
What about feeding? I'd read it was hard to get them to take anything other than live foods?
