    120G Rebuild/Rescape - Islands

I have been thinking about this re-scape for a while. My cousin made me the upgrades for the stand and I have been very slowly painting and preparing for the tear down and re-build. Since I finally got going in earnest, I figure it was time to post.

The Beginning: Several Years Back I saw a 360g Dutch tank with Altum Angels on one of the aquarium forums and was hooked. I slowly started to add plants and by trial and error and lots of reading, had some success.

A few progression shots through the years:
    100_0453.jpgDSC_0110.jpgDSC_0220.jpg

While the tank has done well, it did not start as a planted tank, so much as it morphed into a planted tank.

Next: I set up a 50g in the garage, to house a large portion of the plants I have added over the years, and to move my livestock into. It is a bit crowded but everything seems to be doing fine.2013-07-07_09-02-45_151.jpg

    Now the fun Part2013-07-07_11-35-28_423.jpg

The re-scape begins. This is where the black lava rock will be used.

Looking good. What did you end up going with for the foam build up?

    I LOVE high stands!

I've added a base to all my stands.

When will the manufactures get this? 30" stands.... ugh.

    Nicely done, buddy!

Thanks I am loving it so far. The tank is in the formal dining room and it is across the hall from the formal living room. We can sit on the couch in the living room about 25' away and enjoy the view. Very cool.

Hit Aquatic Warehouse in Kearny Mesa last week and picked up a plastic filter pad about 2" thick and comes in a 2x3 sheet. Worked great so far.

Also used it under the heaviest rocks to spread the point loads. Material hardly deflected.

Here is where I am at so far. May play with the plants a bit but overall i am pretty happy with where it is going.

    2013-07-15_20-18-53_74.jpg2013-07-15_20-19-15_722.jpg2013-07-15_20-18-37_344.jpg

    5 bags of Amozonia
    5 bags of Shrimp Sand
    150lbs of Lava Rock
Oh and a couple bags of Rory's super sand

Many plants to go but so far, Tropica 49, Downoi, dwarf Sagittaria, Cabomba. anubis nana petite, Blyxa, java fern, xmas moss on the tree, crypt wendeti red, dwarf hair grass, a few more i don't remember the names.

Still need to move filter, lights and CO2 into the final position and add the canopy.

Will have 4 T5 96W and will probably add a couple Finnex LEDs.

Yes Richard, because of you I am planning on adding shrimp to a 120g tank.

Thanks to Rory and tons of his tropica 49, the tank is looking pretty sweet.

The canopy is on. I added a SS reflector on the top which has really brightened things up.

5lb CO2 and fluval 406 are tucked away.
