Good call on the upgrade to the ADA tank, you'll be so happy that you made that call.

The stand looks great as well.

Got busy on the tank today... Light is hung and substrate is complete. This weekend may get filter setup partially. With the SS skimmer lily pipes on order I am just going to be running the stock intake/output for awhile. Probably will toss in the Manzanita branches, plant and fill this weekend. Mods still to come other than the SS Lily's are pretty much just the Apex with associated controls and dosing parts along with a couple more mods to the light fixture.

How it looks after working on it most the day.

How it started.. Drew out my desired "shoreline" after placing the manzanita in. This will be used to place substrate dividers.

Using two substrate dividing lines so that it will hold the slope. Lava rock will create the divide.

Next I sprinkled in the ADA Penac P & W with Tourmaline BC. Only Penac was sprinkled beyond the outside substrate divider as this will be sand and no plants will be grown in this area.

Now I mixed my home brew Power Sand and placed in the planting area as well as in the slope section. Followed that with ADA Clear Super and Bacter 100.

Filled the slope section and edges with AS Powder Type.

Planting area filled with AS Normal Type.

Then poured in sand followed by the lava rock slope transition. After the lava was in, the planting area was capped with some AS Powder.

The finished product with light on.

    Side shot.

Shot of light wires and trim rings on ceiling hiding the coiled up extra light wires.

    And the FTS again...

Realizing looking at the photos I sorta lost the curved lines I was going for, ended up being more angular. Probably fix that this weekend.

Wow! Very details and very nice setup.
How do you post images directly into the page? LMK if you need some pettie to tie to the branches.

Thank you Thanh. I have spent quite a bit of time (that's even probably an understatement) planning this tank and scape. Once setup, I do not plan interfere with it for a minimum of at least a year with minor exceptions to replacement of some plants and of course maintenance.

I use tapatalk app on my phone and use their service to host/embed photos. It is by far the easiest solution for me as all my photos are on my phone anyway. Probably cost about six dollars between the app and the unlimited photo hosting fee. But well worth it to me.

Thanks Rory. Is it 6 dollars monthly? I see that you made up your mind with Neptune Apex. I say go for it. I have had mine for over a week now and really like it. There are three different versions and only the full version has the built-in dimming capability. The other two will require the add-on module. The full version also came with a pH probe if you need to monitor tank's pH as well.

    Not monthly, one time fee.

You got it! Full Apex unit with upgrade ph probe and two dosing units from BRS. Also waiting on my Advantage Mark 7 dimming T5HO ballasts and some new power cables so i can wire up my lights for dimming. Have been thinking on the conductivity module but may just wait and get it later.

Substrate layout will make more sense to anyone wondering how I came up with it... Manzanita in and planted. It's a bit sparse by design. Going for an "open" feel on this scape. Still waiting to get my hands on a few other plants though.

Something that is just a bit crazy to me.. Five different types of substrates that I did not rinse at all and after filling will RO/DI the TDS went from zero to.... 009!!

That's some good stuff right there.

The inspiration, Puako beach on the Big Island of Hawaii. Spent alot of time here as a kid and where I hope to end up when I pull the cord so to speak. Wanted to create the feel of the Island and this area in particular. The richness of the land with lava that flows to the sandy beach and wind swept trees stripped by seas.

    Full scape shots.

Very nice. DW look beautiful. Is the plan to leave the white sand area empty?

Yes, the sand area is to be left bare. However I have been playing with the idea of a "lava island" with something on it. We'll see
