Crystal shrimps, set it and forget it. Another one of Naturalwonders' experiments.

This tank has been running for a quite some time. Shrimps are doing extremely well, every 4-5 months, I have to take out at least 1/3 of the colony to prevent overcrowded. The key is to keep the tank in the natural elements, do not add chemicals or anything else in there to mess with water.

    - Original stock: 10 CRS, 10 CBS of mixed grades. About six months ago, I added a few male BKK and RW.
    - Tank is 8G (same as the fluval ebi)
    - 6 year old AS soil.
    - 13W PC clip on light.
    - Small HOB filter.
    - No heater.
    - Crypts and moss
    - Feeding Ken's veggie sticks and Shirakura.
    - Water change: whenever I'm not lazy.
    - Water parameter: don't check, just pH once in a while.
    - 50/50 RO/tap

With out culling and cutting back, the tank could get like this, this was about more than 1.5 year ago. At this time, I had the yellows staying with the crystals but it turned out the yellows couldn't compete. Also, the pH was lower than desirable for yellow neos so I moved them out.

Tank as of now after a reduction about 3 weeks ago.

Why didn't you mention how you have underwater speakers in which you play Barry White through for breeding purposes?

    Robert,

The BKK and RW were added several months ago. Their hybrid babies are now in the breeding time. Right now I can't tell which one is which hahahaha, but a lot are berried so I will soon find out.

Leo, I'm using this one. But any will do, I don't think it will matter much for my case since I mainly use Ken's veggie sticks.

That is the best way to do it IMHO. If nothing is wrong, don't fix it .I have my CRS SSS k14 in almost the exact same set up, and they thrive. I like the variety in yours though. I know you are a fan of that C grade which is cool :P

How many do you usually keep in this colony?
    Alive without breath,
    As cold as death;
    Never thirsty, ever drinking,
    All in mail, never clinking.

James, your tank is really amazing to see. I don't have a shrimp tank, but you make it look very tempting to try one. Thanks for sharing with us.

Any filter at all? Air stone? How often would you say on average you changed the water?
