this is going to be the first time i keep track of my progress through a journal. just started a 7.5 cube bought off a member here and a 12 long also bought from a member here on scape. need a little background info? http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/sh...20#post2140720
anyways, heres the start my 7.5 gallon cube crs tank. i took out 1/3rd of the used azoo plant grower bed for the fear that it might not buffer well being used, and replaced with ada aqua soil. sorry im definitly not a photographer. this is the best i can do with my iphone.
hc carpet was suppose to be temporary till i could kick up the 12 long, but if it does well ill keep it there.
day 5 of cycling and i find this little guy poking his head out. a cherry shrimp that hitchhiked on day 1 of setup. my water parameters are crazy, hardiest shrimp i ever seen.
thanks buck. glad you guys like it. i wish i knew how to take good pictures on this iphone. ive seen many people use their iphones and pictures come out crystal clear.
tested water today:
ammonia off the charts
nitrite off the charts
nitrates off the charts
that one shrimp is still swimming in there happily even with the extreme parameters. i wonder how the hell he's still alive. super breed haha
Added some rotala to fill the spot to the right of the driftwood. I think it adds a nice touch to the tank.
Water parameters are still crazy. I ordered an aquaclear 30 to replace the aquaclear 20. Not much of an upgrade but I feel the extra gph and surface area will make a good difference. Plus I want to have a planted hob. Already added some kind of bamboo type of plant to the existing hob. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1357448119.850314.jpg
thanks for the compliments. the hc i grew in my recently torn down high tech fluval. its doing well in this tank. no co2 no ferts. was planning on a like 10 crypt parva as a carpet but if the hc does well here then ill keep it.
Water parameters are still at an extreme. Tested ammonia, nitrates, nitrites side by side comparison with my low tech tank to make sure my test kit was working properly. My test kit is working fine. The cherry shrimp is still in there zipping around. He is indeed a super shrimp.
Rotala colorata and ludwigia a? Doing good. New growth all the way to the top of the tank. Time to trim and replant.
Mild bba forming on the floating hydrocotyle Japan, a little green algae on the rocks (which I actually like).
Dosing Metricide 14 to help kill bba. Also dosing trace nutrients because hc is starting to brown. This tank was suppose to be a no co2, no dosing tank but I guess 18 watts is enough need co2. My dual stage regulator and 10# tank on stand by.
Thanks. If hc continues to brown out, I'll be replacing with a crypt Parva carpet and try to keep this tank as low tech as possible. I'm hoping I can get away with no co2
Thanks Dan. Im still new at this. I tossed the scape together with left overs from my high tech fluval. It's somewhat similar but I love how this is a cube, perfect square instead of the extra 2 inchs they throw on top of the fluval flora.
