    day 8 update
As expected, not too much to report, i can see the roots of the HC starting to dig into the substrate as well as fresh tiny leaflets. There is a tiny bit of yellowing of some of the HC. The DHG has few random new blades popping up, and a few blades are yellowing. So far, things are moving along as expected. Hoping to see some better HC crawling this week!

New picture has been added to the first post of this thread.

thanks hecto, got them from another scape member.

Quick question, I noticed some of my DHG is browning, I have one bunch that has nearly browned itself completely out (top back right corner). I do notice some fresh sprouts in the very center of it though, should I trim down the brown pieces in the hopes of it encouraging new runners? Btw, I notice that there are fresh new blades popping up randomly every morning!

The soil is plenty moist, and the humidity is consistent, I am thinking that because that area is basically the deepest/highest point of substrate, maybe it kind of dried out midway through? I am trying to be careful not to over do the misting, and have switched it up to every other day this week. Also, I do let it breathe by peeling the plastic wrap back and leave it that way for about 15 minutes each day.

If blades turn brown means they are are already dead trimming them wont encourage new growth, but the fact they are sending up new blades mean that the plug you planted has converted to emerged and should start sending out runners.

While it's still early I would recommend cutting pieces of acrylic to divide the DHG and HC. Refer to Dean/Tiff's older threads - they used acrylic dividers to separate their foreground plants.

Thanks Chris, I intend on doing that soon! I'm just not looking forward to trying to match the angle of the sloping substrate and stuff, and then it will suck when the acrylic pieces are cut too tall.

I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure.

Thanks guys. As you know, dry starts are so tough because you really want to fill your tank a.s.a.p.! I might trim the DHG even lower to further encourage more growth.

Thanks Ace! I know what ya mean, I am going to hold out for at least 2 months, maybe more, it would be really cool to get everything to carpet prior to flooding! Which would mean waiting even longer, hahaha!
