those CPD look cool.
Will they eat shrimp?
They will eat baby shrimp.
With fish whatever fits in their mouths are fair game.

New FTS. HC still not really thriving. Everything else seems to be doing well. Will be picking up a mat of HC and trying again now that I've got CO2. Some moss is growing on top of the petrified wood on the upper right. Started off with just a tiny 1/2" strand. Seems to be growing nicely. Also got a banana plant. Wife thinks it's cute
What do you think I should fill in the back right with? I was thinking of trying some Rotala butterfly but am afraid it may not get enough light.
Got a pair of Gertrudae rainbows from Toru a while back, had them in the betta vase while the tank was cycling. They've nearly doubled in size now and have been in this tank for about 2 weeks.
Look closely, the female looks berried. She's been scavenging around a lot, probably trying to fatten up with more eggs.
The male struttin' his stuff. These boogers are so hard to get a good shot of.

Quickie update.
Sorry, no new FTS. Not a whole lot of change.
Got a new batch of HC which is growing in 10x better than the original. The original HC have pretty much all died off. New HC is starting to carpet! Thanks John1978 for picking up the HC for me!
Got some hair algae popping up in places. Would you guys recommend an Amano shrimp?
One major tiny update...I've got babies! I only saw one, almost sucked him out while doing a water change! I'm guessing it's a Gertrudae Rainbow fry. Hope some of them survive.
Oh ya, remember my 2nd Fluval Edge? Here's a teaser

May I guess why your HC is not spreading?
Are you using only powder type aquasoil? If you are, my guess is your HC is having a hard time to penetrate the substrate because its pretty solid. Because of the small particles of the powder, more substrate are compacted together thus making it "solid", unlike normal aquasoil there are gaps between the bigger granule size, making it easire for roots to penetrate.
That's why most people only use powder type to coat the substrate surface only, and normal aquasoil for the bottom layer so the roots can breath.
I don't know if this is true or has been tested, but just my guess.
You're right. I got the powder stuff.
Although the new batch of HC is doing much better than the original HC and starting to carpet, albeit slowly.
Beautiful tanks Im trying to setup a fluval edge right now and was wondering where did you buy your rocks i live in garden grove/ riverside do you know any good store in riverside planted aquariums?
that rock is petrified wood, most fish stores carry it. Best place locally is usually CK Fishworld in West Covina they tend to have a good selection. Jan's Tropical fish in Montclair usually has some nice pieces too.
Nice Edge! Are you still using the supplemental LED mod?
I'm sad I gave up on mine sometimes, but I was going to scream if I had to service that thing through that tiny opening one more time... but now I'm a little tempted to pull it out of the garage again and give it another try.
